Reunited!

I am about to head out the door to pick up my husband from the airport. He has been flying for about 20 hours, returning from a trip to Bangkok. It has been 11 days since he left. I am sure that he will be feeling the jet-lag and recovering through the weekend. That is the hardest part of traveling I think, what it does to you physically.

When I return from a trip, I love to come home to a tidy place, clean sheets and no necessary errands. Therefore, I have spent the day cleaning up, getting groceries, prepping dinner and changing the linens, even though I don’t think these things mean quite as much to him. For him it seems more about just getting home and back to the routine. Hopefully it will be easy for him after this trip!

Reunited with Old Friends!

I hope that all of my readers had a fantastic Easter! I had a wonderful opportunity to visit with family and old friends over the holiday, and the experience was rejuvenating. Sometimes it is hard to believe how quickly time passes. My nieces and nephews are growing up so fast, and friends have teenagers that are almost the age we were when I last saw them. And in all of that time each and every one of these friends has grown more beautiful and matured so elegantly that it warmed my soul to see them. I only hope that they see themselves as I see them.

I think as the time passes so many people think of what has been lost, and forget to see what they have gained. Years of experience smooth out the rough edges of youth, refining us into the perfect creatures we are meant to be. Life strengthens us, time makes us more patient, and the hurdles we have overcome make us more beautiful. To all of the wonderful friends and family I visited with this weekend, please know that you are gorgeous and inspire me! And to all of my readers, the same is true of you. If you don’t believe me, you are the only one holding yourself back. Believe in yourself today!

Easter Eggs

This Saturday I am going to paint Easter eggs with my niece and nephew. I think the last time I did that I was probably about their ages. I am filled with anticipation about this activity, with it brings an opportunity for nostalgia and those warm fuzzy feelings we all need. Mostly, it is an opportunity for me to connect with family whom I have seen so little of throughout their lives. What better way than painting Easter eggs?

I hope all of my readers have an opportunity to connect with loved ones this holiday. May your Easter be blessed as we celebrate our Lord’s sacrifice and Resurrection.

On the Road

Today I am heading off on a road trip for a long Easter weekend. I am looking forward to the visiting with friends and family, and even the several hour drive. There is something about being on the road, it can be very therapeutic when traffic is not fighting against you. That is what I am hoping for as I plan my journey.

Some of my best ideas come to me during a drive. My mind becomes clear, and in the quiet thoughts that surround me I am able to solve complex problems and find inspiration. I can remember many instances where my best ideas come to me while I was driving. I am not sure if this is true for everyone. My husband for instance, he is a “competitive driver”. Therefore, he spends his time trying to get around others and being free of obstacles. His thoughts are completely focused on what is down the road, so he can get around it in advance. He is probably a better driver than I am. I tend to drive passively, and all the while my sub-conscious mind is working through all the little things that have been on my mind, solving problems. Can’t wait to see what this trip has in store!

Au Revoir mi Amour!

Yesterday my husband left on another journey. He travels often to foreign countries for business, and every now and then I get to tag along with him. Not on this trip however. For me it is always a challenge when he is gone for these long trips. So much of my identity is as his wife, that when I am not actively in that role, I run out of things to do. Suddenly my schedule is not about cooking meals, and all of the other tasks I provide as “wife”. Now it is all about me.

As challenging as this is for me, it is also a very good exercise to help me grow as an individual. So often all of us become wrapped up in the roles we are cast in, that we forget who we are as us alone. When we take away the parent, child, friend, employee, boss or spouse roles, we have an opportunity to understand ourselves and our needs better. Taking this time allows us to perform our roles better in the future. So, even if you don’t have the luxury of a forced respite from your role, it is so important to find the time, whether it be an hour at the spa, or even a quiet moment hidden in the closet. Taking time to focus on yourself is so important to understanding your needs so you can help others more fully.

Date Night Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I hope all of my readers have some enjoyable plans this weekend, and beautiful weather to go along with it! Tonight I have date night with my husband, which I always look forward to. We try to get out about once a week, so I can take a break from cooking, and we can relax and splurge a little. That is what I am looking forward to this weekend, how about you?

I find that planning frequent short term activities to look forward to keeps me motivated and good spirits. When I know that I have something I want to do happening right around the corner, I am upbeat and excited. If you are struggling to find joy in your life right now, try scheduling something fun for this weekend. To often we get caught up in the tasks and errands that need to get done, we forget that we need to feed our spirits to keep them uplifted. With that in mind, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Inspiration Wednesday – Tropical Paradise

This is one of my fantasies. Imagine a tropical paradise where the lodgings are grass roofed huts built on stilts above the water. You access your abode from a walkway that is elevated above the shallow ocean water. As you look down at the water it is crystal clear, providing a clear look at the sandy floor which is the entrance to the immense ocean beyond. Here the water is so clean and blue it does not seem real. A school of fish passes under your path and you watch as it continues the journey through the gentle water. Above the sky is sprinkled with a few white clouds. This is enough to provide an interesting backdrop to the scene before you, but takes nothing away from the climate of the day. You are surrounded by a warm, gentle breeze and the methodical melody of the ocean, lapping gently towards shore. These tiny waves encounter the posts supporting the dwellings and path as you make your way towards your room.

Before you enter your dwelling, you take a deep breath of the sweet air which surrounds you. All your cares and worries are gone. Here is only peace and tranquility. It is here that you can relax and open your mind. With this moment, what do you want to achieve? Have you found your goal? Do you know what life you have envisioned for yourself? This is the place to find the answer to those questions.

Inspiration Wednesdays are designed to share with you a place, idea or goal that may inspire you with a new idea or aspiration. This is a mid-week break to “take you away” for a few moments of the day. If you have an idea you would like to share, post it on my Facebook Page or Discussion Board.

Monday Morning

For me, Mondays seem to be the busiest day of the week. After the weekend, I always end up with so much to do to get back on track. I hate to admit it, but sometimes I just dread it. This week was no exception. The funny thing is, after motivating myself to get through the extra tasks, I feel great about the rest of the week. The best part is knowing that those extra things are behind me.

I think every one of us has similar experiences on a certain day of the week. In order to get to the things we really want to be working on, there are many less exciting tasks that need to be addressed. What I need to work on is embracing those tasks in a more positive light. Today I am going to manifest myself enjoying these obligations, and completing them quickly so that I have time for those things I really enjoy. I invite you to join me in this effort this week, by turning around the dreaded tasks into something positive.

Teamwork

My husband and I just began a new 90 day fitness program. It is a three phase program, mixing up the routine to promote maximum fitness gains. Each phase of the program involves intense workouts 6 days a week, and a specially designed meal plan to accompany it. This is our “summer shape-up” plan. The program is not an easy one, and from what I have heard many people do not complete it. Such a challenge does not deter me however, and one of the main reasons I feel this way is due to my husband. Not that he is a fitness guru, or even the personality type to finish everything he starts. I know we will complete it because we are doing it together.

My husband and I have worked out separately and together many times in the past. We have experimented with many different fitness programs, cycle, running, boxing, weights, ect. The most successful of our endeavors has always been when we have tacked it as a team, and had a clear goal. When we do that, it seems we are always successful. As I begin this 90-day journey, I am also manifesting the results I want to see happen. I will keep you posted at my 30, 60 and 90 day points. If you have a plan you are trying to implement in your life, take a moment to think if there is anyone that could join you. Having a partner keeps you motivated and accountable. It is beneficial in so many aspects of our life.

Balancing Act

The other day I became overwhelmed. It had been a day of catch-up for me, getting back on track after a couple weeks of travel and poor health. Then I hit the ground running, and was close to finishing my daily tasks, with barely any energy left. I had completely spent myself. While I was getting dinner prepared, my husband came home and mentioned heading out to run an errand. I knew he was considering we go together, and I almost collapsed at the thought of going out to run another errand. Seeing the look on my face (horror mixed with exhaustion I think), he quickly modified his plan to not include me. I felt pretty bad about that, but I think I had totally reached my limit for the day.

Many of us go through days like that, where we are carefully balancing everything we have to do, and working ever so hard to keep it all together. It can be a struggle, and sometimes it only takes one small thing to knock us off balance. That is what happened to me the other day. Thankfully, my husband is understanding and I did not need to be part of the errand. But what if it had been different? I am sure I would have mustered up the energy and taken care of what needed to get done, but at what expense? Sometimes we all need to learn to say no. This example reminded me that sometimes I try to take on too much. What about you? Are you balancing too much? If so, it is probably time to take a look at what needs to go.
